Caritas becomes a partner with Executive Council of Vojvodina
Executive council of Vojvodina made a Resolution of organization and realization of public works in the territory of Vojvodina for the year 2009. The works regard activities in social, humanitarian, cultural and other fields, environment and nature and regeneration and rebuilding the public infrastructure. The field of elderly care was accented, considering the needs of local municipalities and the age demographics of the population in this region. Therefore, Caritas will, through its several years long program, and within the public works program planned by the Decree, additionally employ 30 more unemployed persons in this field. As the county Minister of work, employment and gender equality, Miroslav Vasin stated, this Decree was a product of Executive council of Vojvodina’s program for maintaining the employment in the year 2009.
Donation boxes deserve attention
In cooperation with JKP “Informatika” from Novi Sad, Caritas initiated a fund raising action for Elderly care. The campaign goes under the name “They Deserve Attention”. The campaign follows the placement of donation boxes inside the premises of JKP “Informatika” where the citizens of good will can make a donation for the elderly that live on the verge, or in poverty. Aside from donating to the boxes, anyone can make a donation by making payment to the active account of the Caritas’ Elderly Care program: 220 – 31186 – 42. The funds raised will be used to help and boost the Elderly Care project led by Caritas – a program that helps elderly people on the verge, or in poverty, without families, care, and security or in illness. In average, one in four persons needs help in food preparation, and one in seven in maintaining the personal hygiene. These people need the attention of professional staff. Caritas started the Home Care program and has successfully maintained it for the past years over several cities in Serbia. Monthly this program helps about 2800 elderly people. The program includes a great number of volunteers with help the project with their selflessness.
Cooperation with Serbian Ministry of Health On April 4th 2009, In Belgrade, Caritas SCG and Caritas Italiana signed a memo with Serbian Ministry of Health, regarding the concentrated and joined efforts in offering services to mental within health protection program in Serbia. The meeting was attended by the president of Caritas, msgr Stanislav Hočevar, the director rev. Vladislav Varga, coordinator Mr. Darko Tot, project coordinators Danijela Varšic and Jelena Barać. For Caritas Italiana the present were don Livio Corazza, Laura Stopponi and Daniele Bombardi, while on the part of Ministry, the meeting was attended by the Serbian Minister of Health Dr Tomica Milosavljević. Caritas SCG and Caritas Italiana have been working together on mental health protection program since the year 2000. Since January 2008 these two organizations work together with the Serbian Ministry of health on the project of “Mental Health Promotion in Serbia”, co financed partly by the EU. In the next period, caritas will organize a campaign, regarding the World Mental Health Day, together with Ministry of Health, traditionally held on October 10th.
