During the last decade, with the confrontations and the civil war on the territory of Ex Yugoslavia, the overall situation of the old, vulnerable and handicapped people became even worse. The destroyed social system was not capable to fight with their growing needs and has left many of them lonely and vulnerable. Before the beginning of the programs, it has been decided that they will be implemented regardless of religion ethnicity and nationality of those in need. The Caritas’ programs were pointed towards the refugees from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo as well as the local population in need of social help. Many vulnerable groups were helped with the distribution of basic food and hygiene supplies, firewood, clothes, shoes and other social help. The past 2-3 years of Caritas’ work have seen the urgent projects on natural disasters such as floods, landslides and earthquakes. One of the biggest natural disasters that affected the work of Caritas was the tsunami in Southeastern Asia, when, for the first time, Caritas organized the fundraising campaign in this region and gathered about 14.000 Euro worth of help which was sent to the affected region. The last urgent action Caritas undertook was those for the help to the families of those that lost their lives in the floods and landslides. The action covered about one thousand of the families in numerous regions of Serbia. The help consisted of basic food, hygienic and construction supplies. |
